The Word and Today’s Moral Issues and Challenges

Bp. Sofronio A. Bancud, SSS, D.D.
An Abstract

God created us in His image and likeness (cf. Genesis 1:27). However, due to the disobedience of Adam and Eve, the selfish desire to be like gods had emerged (cf. Genesis 3:4). Thus, the moral decadence of humanity is deeply rooted on man’s failure to listen to the Word of God. The question now presents itself: “How can we heal humanity from this moral downfall?” Let us once again be enlightened by the wisdom of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI in order to find effective solution.  He says, “The word of God sheds light on human existence and stirs our conscience to take a deeper look at our lives, inasmuch as all human history stands under God’s judgment” (Verbum Domini 99) The Word of God can transform us to become genuine and credible persons by conforming us to the very image of the Incarnate Word  - Jesus Christ.
